In only 17 years Cometic Gasket, Inc. has grown into a leading worldwide supplier of custom and short-run gaskets for the motorsports industry. What originally began in 1989, in a 1200 square foot office with limited production facilities, has transformed to a 40,000 square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing center, located in the heart of the Midwest. Today, Cometic produces and ships more than 5,000 types of gaskets to customers throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

We combine these advanced materials with state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to provide custom-tailored solutions to meet the needs of each individual customer. Our design engineers have the ability to analyze the environment the gasket will perform in, select the proper material, and apply the appropriate technology to offer the highest performing gaskets available on the market.

Our involvement in motorsports racing led to the development of breakthrough technologies which are now applied to every gasket we build. Cometic Gasket’s involvement in racing circuits such as AMA, ARCA, Busch, IHRA, IRL, NASCAR and the NHRA, have allowed us to develop gaskets that are proven in the most demanding conditions there are- the racetrack.

Cometic's Custom Gasket Department utilizes only the most sophisticated computer design and manufacturing equipment from initial design and engineering through manufacturing and finishing. Our close relationship with GM, Ford, Chrysler and Toyota in product development has filtered through our entire line of PowerSports gaskets and this same technology is available to you. Today's light weight engines are producing more horsepower with higher cylinder pressures, clamp loads and extreme temperatures. Our Custom Gasket Department can accommodate virtually any engine configuration from naturally aspirated to the most exotic turbo and nitrous injected engines. Cometic MLS (multi-layer-steel) Head Gaskets are ideal for any combination of head and cylinder materials. MLS Head Gaskets are comprised of two embossed viton coated stainless steel outer layers and a variable stainless center layer. The variable center layer allows us to create multiple gasket thickness options. No re-torque is required after initial torque set. Rubber coated single layer steel base gaskets are viton rubber coated with a steel core and in some instances embossed. Cometic AFM material engine cover gaskets are made from a chemically blown compounded nitrile synthetic rubber that is bonded to an aluminum core. AFM material has a temperature resistance of over 250° F (121° C) and an 85% recovery while maintaining a strong torque retention. Gaskets made from AFM install dry and do not require a re-torque. Typical gaskets made from AFM include: cam chain gaskets, timing cover gaskets and water pump gaskets. Viton valve stem seals are made from hi-temperature Flouroviton with Teflon to prolong valve stem life and have a spring on the wiper to maintain a positive seal. Exhaust gaskets are made out of various materials, as required by model, such as armor clad, copper, graphite or spiral wound steel. Copper washers and Viton o-rings are used to seal drain plugs and engine covers with stock o-ring seals.

	Harley-Davidson® EST Gasket Kits contain MLS Head Gaskets, Steel Viton coated Base Gaskets, blue Viton Valve Stem Seals and AFM material. Other features include the Race Style Exhaust Gasket, that won’t fray into the port, and the one piece Evolution Rocker Box Base Gasket which is made from a single layer of .020” thick embossed Viton coated steel.
